The Daily Grind: Styling a No-Nonsense Coffee Charm Bracelet
The Concept
This design was inspired by my absolute love for coffee—specifically, black, no-nonsense, great drip coffee. You can keep the lattes and the cappuccinos; just give me the straight-up goodness of a dark, rich cup. Truthfully, I actually prefer it lukewarm. As an Art Director and former Art Department Coordinator (ADC), I’ve probably been conditioned to drink whatever was “on tap” coming out of the side of the craft service truck on set. It’s that unlimited supply of mystery roast that most in the Art Department have in their blood from day one! Jokes aside, coffee is pretty much the fuel for most of my adventures.

To capture this idea in a coffee charm bracelet, I chose a selection of heavily textured coffee bean beads from TrueBeadz, and even had Julia create a custom “My Usual” in a glossy finish instead of their standard matte. I flanked these with sterling TrueBeadz “Elixir” spacers that mimic roasted beans. To bookend the design, I used a couple of Biagi Italy coffee & crema colored swirl beads. They look exactly like the tops of a Roman espresso—which, by the way, was my absolute favorite when Robert and I visited Rome!
The “Anti-Beige” Angle
Make no mistake: this design does not sit at the boring intersection of brown and more brown. By mixing matte and glossy finishes, the palette is instantly elevated. The deep, heavy texture of the silver beans contrasting with the smooth, raised swirls in the little Biagi Italy espresso ends gives this stack immense life and expression. It’s an assertive, sensory-rich take on neutrals.

Art Director & UX Perspective
This stack visually embodies the start of a new day—the beginning of another marathon of shooting, directing, shopping, arranging, and coordinating everything involved with the commercial or film. Having a coffee in my hand not only motivates me to get things done, but it also grounds my focus amidst a chaotic schedule. Even when the day looks daunting on paper, rolling with the punches and taking it as it comes remains my go-to recipe for success. This bracelet is the visual anchor for that mindset.

The Educator’s Note
No matter which way this bracelet rotates, you can see or feel a coffee bean, which always makes me smile. I know coffee-themed bracelets have been done before, but this one—with its bold, “mag wheel” sized TrueBeadz—perfectly suits my personality. It’s a little larger than life, radiating the confidence that no matter the theme, it’s the edit that makes the design sing.
